We often talk about the loss of monoculture. It's increasingly rare that the entire zeitgeist is captivated by a single TV show or movie. But between World Cup fever and the Knicks win, there's a palpable collective energy right now — particularly in New York City, where I happen to be writing this note from my hotel room with thousands of fans packing a random side street below, singing "New York, New York" with no hope of any sort of actual view of the Parade of Champions progressing a full block away.
