President Donald Trump has built an arena behind the White House to host an Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) event on Sunday, June 14, as part of the celebrations for the United States' 250th anniversary this year.
Sunday is both U.S. Army's birthday and Flag Day, as well as the president's 80th birthday — though he insists the timing is a coincidence.
"They're building a great arena. And June 14, which by happenstance is my birthday. It was not set up that way," Trump told his daughter-in-law Lara Trump in a Fox News interview last month. "Everyone said, 'Oh, he did it for his birthday.' And it's Sunday night, June 14. It happens to be Flag Day. That happens to be my birthday, but that happened to be the best night for it."
The mixed martial arts event, dubbed "UFC Freedom 250," will feature seven UFC fights broadcast live on Paramount+.
The 4,000-seat arena was quickly constructed in recent weeks, complete with towering stage lights that rise well above the White House and feature the UFC's signature octagonal cage with corporate sponsors like Bud Light and Polymarket. The Trump administration said in a Tuesday, June 9, court filing that the event cost more than $60 million for the UFC and "UFC-affiliated organizations."

Trump, a longtime fan of professional fighting, attended multiple UFC events in the past few years, including on the campaign trail in 2024 and as recently as April in Miami. On June 2, Trump compared the arena to Paris' Eiffel Tower in a TikTok video and suggested that "maybe we'll never take it down."
Celebrities, top Republicans and hundreds of service members who were awarded free tickets are expected to attend. At the nearby White House Ellipse, a fan festival will host tens of thousands to watch the fights for free, UFC president and Trump ally Dana White told The New Yorker in May.
Temperatures in the nation's capital are expected to reach the mid-90s on Sunday, with D.C. meteorologists for Capital Weather expecting high humidity and possible thunderstorms that evening as the outdoor event is set to kick off. A University of Maryland entomologist — an insect scientist — told Axios there is a 100% chance thousands of bugs will also be in attendance, as is typical for June in swampy D.C.
