There have been rumors of a family feud since Brooklyn married Nicola Peltz Beckham in April 2022
In a January 2026 post on his Instagram Stories, Brooklyn accused his parents of manipulating the press and trying "endlessly" to sabotage his marriage to Nicola
Brooklyn Beckham is breaking his silence on a long-rumored Beckham family feud.
After marrying in July 1999, former professional soccer player David Beckham and fashion designer Victoria Beckham welcomed four children: Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper. In April 2022, Brooklyn, a rising chef, married actress Nicola Peltz Beckham in an elegant wedding in Palm Beach, Fla., surrounded by their family and friends.
While their nuptials were a celebratory day for the happy couple, they also marked the start of a rumored rift between Brooklyn and Nicola and the rest of the Beckham family. In March 2023, Nicola denied the claims in a conversation with Cosmopolitan, saying that there was "no feud" between them.
Since then, however, there have been new revelations in their complicated family dynamics. In May 2025, a source told PEOPLE that "every time they finally have a happy moment, it all falls apart again," adding that Brooklyn has felt "torn."
"It’s his family and blood, but he’s always had a complicated relationship with his dad," the insider continued. "A lot of their relationship has felt like 'business.' "
On Jan. 19, Brooklyn spoke out about his estrangement from his parents in a bombshell-filled message on his Instagram Stories, claiming that his parents have been "trying endlessly to ruin" his marriage to Nicola.
"I do not want to reconcile with my family," he wrote. "I'm not being controlled, I'm standing up for myself for the first time in my life."
So, what's going on with the Beckhams? Here's everything to know about the Beckham family feud.
Their feud allegedly began over a wedding dress

Following Brooklyn and Nicola's wedding, rumors swirled of tension between the bride and her new mother-in-law after Nicola opted not to wear one of Victoria's designs, despite originally planning to. In August 2022, Nicola told Variety that there was no clash over the dress, explaining that Victoria's atelier simply couldn't do it.
In May 2025, a source told PEOPLE that the rumors of a clash were real, explaining that Victoria told Nicola she'd love to make her wedding dress once she and Brooklyn got engaged. Nicola allegedly said it would "be her honor" and that she'd "love to wear one of her originals."
The source claimed that as time went on, Victoria changed her mind — and called Nicola's mother to tell her that she wouldn't be making the dress anymore.
"Nicola was painted as a brat for not wearing Victoria Beckham at the wedding," the source said. "She'd gone to a ton of Victoria Beckham fashion shows and events in Victoria's clothing. She even wore Victoria Beckham to her Lola movie premiere."
However, a second insider told PEOPLE that the dress situation is "far from the truth," claiming that this narrative is used to "try and paint Nicola as somehow a victim."
"As ever, the Beckhams have stayed above it all despite constant attacks through the media," the source added. "It’s sad as they love their son and they have all tried so hard with Nicola but it’s become impossible."

The wedding dress wasn't the only alleged point of contention surrounding Brooklyn and Nicola's wedding. In May 2025, a source told PEOPLE that the family tensions came to a head after Victoria allegedly hijacked a dance at Brooklyn's wedding, despite her son and Nicola's planned moment for the song, which was performed by Marc Anthony as a gift to the newlyweds.
"Before the song began, Marc Anthony asked Brooklyn to come to the stage, and then announced, 'The most beautiful woman in the room tonight, come on up , , , Victoria Beckham!' " the source said, adding that Nicola allegedly "felt that Victoria ruined her wedding, and couldn't understand why."
A second source added, "It was such a jaw-dropping moment that it left the whole room in absolute shock — you could hear a pin drop."
The insider also noted that the alleged mother-son slow dance "wasn't appropriate," and that everyone then saw "Nicola run from the room crying."
However, a third source who attended the big event said that Anthony's performance came "when everyone was casual" later in the evening — after Brooklyn and Nicola shared their formal first dance, and the bride had a moment on the dance floor with her father.
"Brooklyn and Victoria danced, David and Harper danced, and everyone had a great time," the insider added.
Reps for Victoria and David Beckham and Anthony did not return PEOPLE's request for comment.

In early May 2025, David celebrated his 50th birthday with a star-studded celebration in London. While Romeo, Cruz and Harper attended, Nicola and Brooklyn were absent despite receiving an invite to the event, PEOPLE learned.
The party came amid "tensions between Brooklyn and Nicola and the family," a source told PEOPLE.
After the milestone event, Victoria shared a carousel of photos from the event on Instagram, writing, "Creating special memories with family and friends. We love you all."
In early June, however, another source told PEOPLE that Brooklyn and Nicola opted to skip the event because of Romeo's new girlfriend, DJ Kim Turnball, whom the insider claimed was once linked to Brooklyn.
"Brooklyn didn't want to be in the same room as her, and he told his dad that," the source said. "But David opted to have Kim there over Nicola."
Meanwhile, a second source added, "Brooklyn and Kim know each other from the past, and his family knows he's not comfortable around her."
However, Cruz replied to a commenter on a recent Instagram post saying that "Brooklyn and Kim never dated," which another source also claimed to PEOPLE.

After Brooklyn and Nicola missed their dad's birthday event and other Beckham family functions, a source told PEOPLE that their relationship was strained — but it didn't have to be permanent.
"The relationship is definitely not beyond repair," the source said. "They love and are always there for him. They’re just hurt and disappointed that he’s now playing no part in family life."
Later in May, Brooklyn spoke with The Sunday Times and shared a rare comment about his dad amid their ongoing rumored tensions, explaining that his father helped inspire his love of racing when he was "very young."
“It’s something that me and my dad bonded over. My dad’s had some pretty cool cars," Brooklyn told the outlet.

"My whole world x," Brooklyn captioned the post. "I will love you forever x I always choose you baby x you’re the most amazing person i know xx me and you forever baby❤️❤️."
The post came one month after Brooklyn shared a heartfelt Instagram tribute for the pair's third wedding anniversary.

Just hours after Brooklyn posted his heartfelt tribute to Nicola, his youngest brother Cruz shared a family photo to his Instagram Stories, writing, "I love my family."
"I love you guys more than anything, mum & dad, you gave us life and cared for us no matter what," he continued. "I cannot tell you how blessed we all are to have you in our lives."
Days later, Cruz shared another cryptic message to his Instagram Stories: "It takes 43 muscles in your face to frown, and 17 to smile. Be kind and tell the truth," he wrote, per Page Six.
The following day, Nicola shared an Instagram Stories of her own, showing love for her mom, Claudia Peltz.
"I would choose my mom to be my mom in every lifetime. again, and again, and again," the text on the screen read.
A source told PEOPLE that David and Victoria have "repeatedly" tried to mend the rift with Brooklyn and Nicola

In early January 2026, a source with knowledge of the situation told PEOPLE that David and Victoria have "repeatedly asked Brooklyn and Nicola to meet and talk in order to move forward."
David loves his kids," the source continued. "They are his everything."
The source's comment came one month after Brooklyn, Nicola, Victoria and David appeared to not follow each other on Instagram anymore. Brooklyn no longer follows his parents on the social media platform, and they no longer follow him back. David and Victoria also do not follow Nicola, and they don't appear in the list of accounts they follow, either. Brooklyn and Nicola also do not follow and are not followed by the other Beckham children.
Cruz later responded to the situation with a post on his Instagram Stories by sharing a screenshot of a news article about the unfollowings, writing, "NOT TRUE."
"NOT TRUE. My mum and dad would never unfollow their son … Let's get the facts right. They woke up blocked … as did I," he wrote. A spokesperson for Victoria then told PEOPLE that Cruz "was responding to stories that [his] parents had unfollowed their son, which isn’t true."

Months after rumors of their family feud began swirling, Brooklyn shared a lengthy post on his Instagram Stories on Jan. 19 in which he accused his parents of manipulating the press and spreading "lies" to sabotage his marriage.
"I have been silent for years and have made every attempt to keep these matters private. Unfortunately, my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed," Brooklyn wrote.
He continued to write that his family "values public promotion and endorsements above all else," claiming that "family 'love' is decided by how much you post on social media, or how quickly you drop everything to show up and pose for a family photo."
Brooklyn further claimed that ahead of his wedding, David and Victoria "repeatedly pressured and attempted to bribe me into signing away the rights to my name, which would have affected me, my wife, and our future children."
"They were adamant on me signing before my wedding date because then the terms of the deal would be initiated," he wrote. "My holdout affected the payday, and they have never treated me the same since."
Brooklyn claimed Victoria canceled Nicola's wedding dress "at the eleventh hour"

Elsewhere in his message on his Instagram Stories, Brooklyn addressed the rumors of a clash with his mom over Nicola's wedding dress, claiming that Victoria canceled on Nicola "at the eleventh hour."
"My parents have been trying endlessly to ruin my relationship since before my wedding, and it hasn't stopped," he wrote. "My mum cancelled making Nicola's dress in the eleventh hour, despite how excited she was to wear her design, forcing her to urgently find a new dress."
A source close to the situation then told PEOPLE that Brooklyn and Nicola are "sick of" the "false narratives" being spread by David and Victoria, which is what led Brooklyn to break his silence on his estrangement from his parents.
"They just wanted to quietly live their lives and be married but after reading enough of the relentless inaccuracies about Nicola, a family member had had enough and wanted to set the record straight last year," the insider added, "And then the Beckhams had plenty of time to make amends and try and fix the damage and instead they continued to push these false narratives, and Brooklyn and Nicola are just sick of it. Brooklyn knows his truth and was ready to speak it."
One day after Brooklyn's message, David said his kids have "made mistakes"

One day after Brooklyn's lengthy message on his Instagram Stories, David appeared on CNBC’s financial program Squawk Box and seemingly broke his silence on his son's bombshell post.
While discussing social media and mental health, David said that his kids have "made mistakes."
“I have always spoken about social media and the power of social media. For the good and for the bad,” David began, before going on to say he's tried to "educate" his children.
"They make mistakes, but children are allowed to make mistakes. That is how they learn. That is what I try to teach my kids," he said. "You sometimes have to let them make those mistakes as well."
