Mindy Kaling tested Hailey Bieber’s protein pizza recipe featuring cottage cheese and shared her thoughts on Instagram

Kaling admitted initial doubts about the dough but praised the finished pizza as “so good” and encouraged fans to try it

Hailey Bieber‘s protein pizza is Mindy Kaling-approved!

The actress and writer took to the kitchen to test out the Rhode founder‘s cottage cheese-based pizza recipe, which went viral earlier this year, and shared the results in a Reel on Instagram.

“Guys, I’m so excited because today we are doing a viral recipe,” Kaling says in the video. “It’s the Hailey Bieber protein pizza recipe that I keep seeing online.”

“I really want to try it because I’m always trying to get in that extra protein for my heavy lifting,” she says.

She adds as a photo of her in the gym appears, “Actually that’s kind of true.”

Kaling mixes together her ingredients for the dough, including cottage cheese, egg whites, flour, coconut flour and baking powder.

“That doesn’t seem like, very dough-like,” she says as she mixes together the initial ingredients. Text overlaid on the screen says, “(doubt kicks in).”

Kaling then adds her seasonings, including salt, garlic powder and oregano, before laying the dough on a greased, parchment-lined baking sheet.

“It smells really good, but looking at the little pieces of cottage cheese is kind of gross,” Kaling admits as she flattens out the dough. “So we’ll see.”

As she puts the pizza dough in the oven, she says, “In you go. Hopefully, you will turn out better than you look.”

She takes it out after 10 minutes per the recipe instructions, but after concluding that the dough “still looks pretty raw,” she puts it back in the oven for a few minutes.

“Hailey, please comment if we’re doing the right thing,” Kaling says, as text overlaying the screen says, “Sending out a Bieber SOS.”

Kaling crosses her fingers.

The Not Suitable for Work creator then takes out the dough for a second time and notes some “browning” on it.

She tops it with marinara, shredded mozzarella and fresh basil before putting it back into the oven.

“Alright, I let it go in a lot longer than they said, but this is why,” Kaling says as she pulls the pan out.

“This smells delicious, and I think it’s kind of beautiful in its own way,” Kaling says before slicing the pizza.

“Oh my gosh, this is great,” Kaling says as she tries a bite. “I was kind of dubious, but this is so good.”

“Hailey Bieber, you have done it again,” she adds. “Guys, you have to try this recipe.”

“The @haileybieber protein pizza recipe was a real lesson in trusting the process honestly!!!” Kaling writes in the caption.

Fans were persuaded in the comments section, with one writing, “Alright I’ll try it you got me.”

The mother of three has previously shared other cooking content, including making a recipe from home cook and author Maxine Sharf of Maxi’s Kitchen last October for her and her children.

The actress shared an Instagram post on Oct. 15 making chicken Milanese, consisting of breaded chicken and a salad with lemon juice, tomatoes and Parmesan cheese.

As Kaling pounded out the chicken with a meat mallet, she said, “Some people do this with plastic on top — that’s giving like microplastics to me.”

“One thing I love about this recipe is that it’s not fried, and I think it tastes better not fried,” she added after putting the chicken in the oven. “And even though this looks really complicated, it’s actually so quick and easy.”

Her son Spencer, 5, could be heard proclaiming his hunger in the back of the video and is seen grabbing a few slices of Parmesan cheese prepped for the salad.

Kaling got her son to test the finished product by selling it as a “breaded dino nugget.”

The multihyphenate has opened up several times about the public reaction to her weight loss journey, both in a Bustle cover shoot and while promoting her Hulu series Not Suitable for Work on The View on May 27.

“I think we all think it’s weird when public figures lose weight because we want this perfectly consistent narrative of their lives,” Kaling said. “But I have wanted to lose weight since I was 12 years old. I’ve been writing jokes about diet and body image for 20 years now.”

“But also, in the same interview I said that I’m 46. I’m a single mom of three kids,” she said of her Bustle interview. “My mom died young of cancer and both my parents had diabetes. … I need to live. I need to live and the kids need me.”

She added that “both can be true” of wanting to “look hot” and go on the journey for health purposes and for her kids.

Of her process, she said, “I see a trainer three times a week. I really watch what I eat.”
