Patrick Dempsey — 'Memory of a Killer' - Fox

Just ahead of the Season 1 finale of Memory of a Killer, starring Patrick Dempsey as a hitman with Alzheimer’s, fans of the series got good news: The thriller was renewed for Season 2.

And while it will still be sometime before the series comes back, we now know that Natalie Zea will recur in Season 2. Per Deadline, her character, Olivia, is “a brilliant, ambitious, yet sensitive businesswoman who always insisted on forging her own way — and she has, in ways no one yet suspects. In the aftermath of tragedy, she appears to be a woman undone by loss, but beneath the surface, this is a woman protecting something far more dangerous than a legacy. You love and trust her completely – right up until the moment you can’t…”

When does Memory of a Killer Season 2 premiere?

Memory of a Killer is a midseason show, so while we don’t have a premiere date just yet, we can expect it to be sometime in early 2027.

“Memory of a Killer has become a true standout with visceral performances from Patrick Dempsey and Michael Imperioli,” Michael Thorn, President of Fox Television Network, said in a statement when the series was renewed in April, the day of the finale. “Aaron Zelman, Glenn Kessler, and our partners at Warner Bros. Television have delivered a sharp, emotional character-driven thriller that’s clearly landed with viewers, and we’re excited to continue that success together in Season 2.”

Added Channing Dungey, Chairman and CEO, Warner Bros. Television Group and WBD US Networks, “We’re thrilled Fox has renewed Memory of a Killer for a second season, a richly deserved renewal given the show’s great critical, creative, and commercial success. The performances of Patrick Dempsey and Michael Imperioli have been powerful and compelling, and we can’t wait to see what the show’s brilliant creative team has in store for Angelo’s next chapter.”

What is Memory of a Killer about?

The Fox drama is inspired by the book and 2003 award-winning Belgian film De Zaak Alzheimer. It follows “a hitman, Angelo Doyle, leading a dangerous double life while hiding an even deadlier personal secret.”

Who’s in the Memory of a Killer cast?

Patrick Dempsey stars as Angelo Doyle. Michael Imperioli plays his oldest friend, Dutch, who’s also an accomplished chef who runs his criminal enterprise out of his restaurant. The cast also includes Richard Harmon as Joe, a hitman; Odeya Rush as Maria, Angelo’s daughter; Daniel David Stewart as Jeff, Maria’s husband; Peter Gadiot as Dave, a local police detective; and Gina Torres as Special Agent Linda Grant. Torres will not be back in Season 2; Grant was revealed to be the Ferryman and killed by Angelo in the Season 1 finale.

In addition to Zea, Meta Golding is joining the cast. Her series regular character is “Mel, Angelo’s childhood sweetheart,” according to Deadline. “A Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist who has spent her career diving headfirst into the world’s darkest corners — and has the scars to prove it. Mel is not a delicate flower: she’s sharp, funny, direct, and constitutionally incapable of looking away from the truth. She and Angelo were childhood sweethearts, but their romance was cut short by Angelo’s tragic past. She reappears in Angelo’s life and becomes his love interest of the season – while working alongside him to avenge a tragic loss. Mel is the season’s moral engine and its emotional heartbeat — the woman who forces Angelo to reckon with who he is, what he’s done, and whether the two of them can survive what’s coming together.”

Memory of a Killer is produced by Warner Bros. Television and FOX Entertainment. Aaron Zelman, Glenn Kessler, Ed Whitmore, Tracey Malone, Cathy Schulman, David Schulner, and Patrick Dempsey serve as executive producers. Arthur Sarkissian and Martin Campbell are also executive producers, along with Peter Bouckaert of Eyeworks. Zelman and Kessler took over as showrunners during the first season and will continue in those roles for the second.

When TV Insider spoke with Dempsey about the March 16 episode, the seventh of the first season, he had been hopeful for more and shared that he wanted to explore more about the treatments that his character, Angelo, is now undergoing for his Alzheimer’s.

“I think there’s so much going on right now, and this has been the thing I’ve been studying recently. If we do do a second season — we’re still waiting to hear, and hopefully our numbers keep improving and people follow the show — that gives us an opportunity to even dive deeper into that,” he shared. “That’s what drew me to the character is that character flaw, the humanity of that, the vulnerability of that. And how does that affect his work? Will it affect his work in the fear of that? And the fact that he comes through and realizes he does in fact need help. What can I do? How does he get out in front of it? And I think this will be an ongoing journey for him.”
