Matt Damon says he would welcome fan ideas for a future Bourne film

The 55-year-old actor first portrayed CIA assassin Jason Bourne in 2002's The Bourne Identity, and returned to the character in three more films

In 2023, Universal Pictures revealed it was working on a new Bourne sequel, with Edward Berger attached as director

So long as Jason Bourne fans keep the ideas flowing, Matt Damon is down to keep the franchise going.

The Bourne star, 55, celebrates the tenth anniversary of the franchise's last film, 2016's Jason Bourne, this year, and admitted he missed starring in the series during an interview with Parade. All that stands between him and a return to his longtime spy role is a great new plot, he said.

"We're always looking to try to get another one of those because we loved it, everyone who worked on them," Damon told the outlet. "So there's always some attempt going on to write, to come up with a new story."

He added, "So if you have anything, let us know."

Damon first portrayed Jason Bourne, then a CIA assassin, in The Bourne Identity in 2002, followed by sequels The Bourne Supremacy in 2004, The Bourne Ultimatum in 2007, and finally Jason Bourne in 2016, after 2012's spinoff The Bourne Legacy followed Jeremy Renner's own spy character Aaron Cross, alongside Edward Norton.

Inspired by the original trilogy books by Robert Ludlum, the beloved franchise takes Damon's character all over the world on dangerous missions, running into enemies and the occasional ally as his past in espionage repeatedly catches up with him.

In November 2023, Deadline reported that Universal Pictures was in the early stages of another Bourne sequel, with All Quiet on the Western Front director Edward Berger attached as director. At the time, casting hadn't been announced, including whether Damon would reprise his role.

Months later, Damon admitted he was "anxious" to do another Bourne film. While speaking with Stephen Colbert in February 2024, Damon said he didn't have many details on the forthcoming project, though he was excited to see what would happen.

"No details have been given to me! There's a great director named Edward Berger ... he's wonderful, and he said he had an idea," Damon said at the time. "I would love to work with him — he's working on it. I'm as anxious as you are to see if this thing is — I hope it's great and that we can do it."

Still, he added, Damon wasn't sure if he himself would return to the role. "At a certain point, someone's gonna need to take it over," he added. "I'm not getting any younger."
