From Queen to Bob Dylan to Bruce Springsteen and so many others, it seems like just about every chart-topping musical act in rock history has gotten the biopic treatment at some point. Now yet another movie about a legendary band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, is reportedly in the works, and with good reason: The Southern rock icons have one of the most dramatic stories ever.
In a recent interview with Ultimate Classic Rock, Lynyrd Skynyrd's longtime manager Ross Schilling revealed that there's been some serious "interest" in turning the band's tale into a major motion picture.
"We have two or three big players interested in doing the official movie for the band," Schilling said. "We think, obviously, the story is tremendous. There's probably not a better story out there in music, certainly in rock 'n' roll. We don't know if it will be a two-hour motion picture film or go to Netflix or somebody and do a six- or eight-episode series."

As fans are no doubt well aware, at the height of Lynyrd Skynyrd's fame in the '70s, the band's career suffered a tremendous blow when a plane crash claimed the lives of members Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, and backup singer Cassie Gaines, in addition to injuring the rest of the band.
Along the same lines, there's also an "official autobiography" on the way, according to Schilling. "There have been several written by various people, but none by the people that were closest to it and lived it," he pointed out.

And that's not all: As Schilling revealed, there's "been discussion" about new music from the band, too, as about "30 songs" have been written that are "kind of sitting there that could be revisited and recorded at some point."
"Will they come out as Skynyrd music? I don't know. That has yet to be determined," he said.
Whether or not new music is actually in the pipeline, fans can look forward to seeing the current Lynyrd Skynyrd lineup on tour with fellow iconic classic rock band Foreigner this year on the Double Trouble Double Vision Tour, kicking off July 23 in Atlanta and finishing up on Aug. 29 in Rogers, Ark.
