Kate Middleton and Prince William Bring Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis to the Commonwealth Games

The Prince and Princess of Wales’ appearance with their kids came amid their usual summer break out of the public eye

Kate Middleton and Prince William made an outing to the 2026 Commonwealth Games a family affair.

The Prince and Princess of Wales, both 44, interrupted their summer break to attend the event in Glaglow, Scotland, on Saturday, Aug. 1.

Joining them were their three children: Prince George, 13, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8.

The outing at the sporting event — held every four years to bring together athletes from across the Commonwealth of Nations — marked the kids’ first official time being seen publicly in Scotland, The Telegraph and GB News reported.

William and Kate, who are known as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay while in Scotland, spent some of their time in Glasgow with Team Wales athletes and their families.

The couple also visited SportsAid, an organization that helps young athletes and of which Kate has been patron since 2013.

Prince William and Princess Kate typically spend a period in the summer out of the public eye to spend time with their three children during their school break.

They may take a vacation and also spend time at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, where the British royal family traditionally gathers in the late summer months.

The 2022 Commonwealth Games were held in Birmingham, England. William and Kate were in attendance, bringing along their daughter, Princess Charlotte, then 7, for her first-ever solo royal outing with her parents.

With her hair in pigtail braids, the young princess joined her parents to watch field hockey, swimming and gymnastics competitions, revealing at the time that gymnastics was her favorite sport.

While William and Kate’s children are largely kept out of the public eye, the siblings occasionally join the royal family at events and sometimes step out with their parents at sporting events.

Earlier this summer, Charlotte and her older brother, Prince George, continued their tradition of joining their parents at Wimbledon to watch the men’s singles final.

The family — sans Prince Louis — battled the heat with hats and fans as they watched Italy’s Jannik Sinner defeat Germany’s Alexander Zverev to repeat as Wimbledon champ. Princess Kate then took to the court to present the trophies in her capacity as patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

The Prince and Princess of Wales are just the latest members of the royal family to attend this year’s Commonwealth Games.

On Thursday, July 30, Princess Anne and Prince Edward had a rare sibling outing together as they attended several of the competitions alongside their respective spouses, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence and Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh.

Due to a last-minute hosting shift that moved the 2026 Games from Victoria, Australia, to Scotland, this year’s Games were a scaled-back version of the typical competition, with athletes from all 74 Commonwealth nations competing in 10 categories of sporting competition: 3x3 basketball, artistic gymnastics, athletics (track and field events), bowls, boxing, track cycling, judo, netball, swimming and weightlifting.

Six of the sports (3x3 basketball, athletics, bowls, track cycling, swimming and powerlifting) also have adaptive sport competitions.

King Charles and Queen Camilla opened the Games on July 23 in epic fashion: by appearing onstage at Hydro Stadium in Doctor Who’s iconic TARDIS!

The pair stepped on stage from the 1960s-style police box used by the Time Lord from the long-running British sci-fi series, as the Royal Scottish National Orchestra Youth Chorus performed “God Save the King.”

During his opening remarks, the monarch praised the Commonwealth communities for preparing for the Games with “generosity and pride” via the 500-day Baton Relay.

“Seeing the Batons arrive into Scotland today, in all their colorful glory, carried by inspiring athletes and para-athletes, reminds us once again that the Commonwealth is a unique and extraordinary family of nations,” he said.

“As we gather, we celebrate the dedication and talent of every athlete and team. Your perseverance inspires us, and we eagerly anticipate your achievements in the coming days,” Charles continued, extending his “warmest gratitude to the city of Glasgow, to all the athletes, to the organizers, volunteers and all those who have made this event possible.”
