Few statement tees have found their way into as many celebrity closets as this one has. Originally issued as promotional merchandise for an 1983-founded anti-drug program, Drug Abuse Resistance Education, the “D.A.R.E.” T-shirt quickly became a satirical symbol of ’90s counterculture, worn by club kids as tongue-in-cheek statements of rebellion. The most popular one, printed with “D.A.R.E. TO KEEP KIDS OFF DRUGS,” has stood the test of time—revived by the likes of Cara Delevingne, Bella Hadid, Nina Dobrev, and, as seen here, Dakota Johnson.

On July 30, Johnson stepped out in her “D.A.R.E.” tee in Los Angeles after filming Maggie Gyllenhaal’s upcoming short film, Flesh Impact, in which she transformed into the spitting image of Marilyn Monroe in the 1950s.

The actor paired the vintage piece with extra-long relaxed trousers for a full comfy look, and pulled her brown hair up into a bun (she must have left the bouncy blonde wig behind), with her bangs covering her forehead and a pair of sunglasses shielding her eyes.

She accessorized the fit with little hoop earrings and a chunky black ring—the perfect match to her nail polish—and grabbed a large Valentino bag that made just as much of a statement as her shirt did.

The tote—the Valentino Garavani Nellcôte—was crafted from caramel-brown suede and embellished with a tapestry-style panel, adding intricate floral embroidery to the classic shopping-bag style. The decorative motif was framed by silver ball studs, rivets and grommets, and black contrast stitching for extra playful detailing.
