Scott Jennings‘ friendship with Mitch McConnell was called into question once again during the July 30 episode of The Source With Kaitlan Collins. The conservative pundit appeared virtually alongside Kaitlan Collins and Karen Finney during a segment of the primetime news program.
“You were actually invoked the other night on the show about your former boss, Senator Mitch McConnell. Have you spoken to him recently on the phone?” Collins asked Jennings.
Jennings replied, “No, I haven’t spoken to him. I talked to him early on and I’m in touch with his office, but I haven’t spoken to him recently.” That prompted Finney to lift up her phone and mockingly ask, “Do we want to FaceTime him? No? OK.”

Jennings remained straight-faced and did not acknowledge Finney’s question. After a few moments of awkward silence, Collins ended the segment. “OK, on that note, Scott Jennings, Karen Finney, thank you both for being here,” she said.
McConnell was hospitalized in June and no public updates about his condition were given for weeks. On July 7, Jennings claimed he spoke to McConnell on the phone for 20 minutes, but would not share specifics about his health or condition. Later that evening, CNN host Kasie Hunt urged Jennings to call McConnell on-air and pointed out that the lack of transparency about his hospitalization was concerning.

It wasn’t until July 12 that McConnell finally shared a proof-of-life photo and revealed that he had been hospitalized after a fall. “My doctors have confirmed that I didn’t break any bones or suffer a concussion,” he shared. “I didn’t have a heart attack or a stroke. I don’t have any tumors or hemorrhages. But I was briefly unconscious and was taken to the hospital.”
On July 23, Jennings said during another CNN segment that he had not spoken to McConnell again, but assured Hunt, “I know he continues to do his rehab activities. I know he’s still following doctors’ orders.”

McConnell’s team offered another update on July 26. “The Senator continues to meet with staff regarding Senate and Kentucky business, including discussions on defense appropriations, foreign policy, the farm bill, constituent services and constituent federal grant requests,” a spokesperson shared. “As the Senator continues to improve in rehab, we will be sure to keep you .”
