Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer has moved to quell any speculation that he could be interested in the Michigan job.

DeBoer said in a statement Sunday via Alabama's NIL collective that he was happy at Alabama and that he has "no interest in speaking with anyone else about any other job."

“My family and I are very happy in Tuscaloosa and remain extremely grateful for the support of President [Peter] Mohler, [athletic director] Greg Byrne, the board and so many others," DeBoer said. "We have an incredible opportunity in front of us, so my sole focus is on Alabama football and our preparations to play Oklahoma in the College Football Playoff.

“I have not spoken and have no interest in speaking with anyone else about any other job. I am fully committed to this program and look forward to continuing as the head football coach at the University of Alabama.”

DeBoer is in his second season at Alabama as the Tide prepares to play Oklahoma on Friday in their first-round College Football Playoff game. He had been widely mentioned as a possibility to be the Wolverines' next coach.

On3 reported Sunday afternoon that DeBoer and Alabama had been in talks about a contract extension.

The job at Michigan opened on Wednesday when Sherrone Moore was fired with cause after the school found evidence that he engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staffer. Moore was arraigned on Friday on a felony home invasion charge and two other misdemeanors after he allegedly went to the woman's house after he was fired and told her that she ruined his life while he threatened to take his own life.

DeBoer was a potential candidate at Michigan following the 2023 season after his Washington Huskies lost to Michigan in the national championship game. Jim Harbaugh left the Wolverines to go to the Los Angeles Chargers and instead of going with an outside hire, Michigan promoted Moore, the team's offensive coordinator. Moore had served as Michigan's interim coach during two different Harbaugh suspensions in 2023.

DeBoer ended up in Tuscaloosa after the surprise retirement of Nick Saban following the 2023 season. Saban's Alabama team lost to Michigan in the semifinals of the final four-team College Football Playoff.

Alabama (10-3) has lost at least three games in each of DeBoer's first two seasons. Alabama lost three or more games just twice in Saban's tenure. One of those was a 7-6 season in his first year at Alabama in 2007. Alabama never lost more than two games in a season under Saban's watch over his last 13 years with the Crimson Tide.

The standard Saban set is nearly impossible. He's one of the greatest college coaches of all time, if not the best ever. But his success has also led to some grumbling from Alabama fans, especially after the team missed out on last year's playoff entirely.

Michigan, meanwhile, will need to find someone else to replace Moore. At the moment, other candidates appear to include Washington coach Jedd Fisch, Arizona State coach Kenny Dillingham and Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter.
