Hunter Schafer rose to fame for her role as Jules Vaughn on Euphoria. After four years, the show is returning for its long-awaited third season, bringing Schafer back alongside original cast members including Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, and Maude Apatow.

And it’s not only her portrayal of Jules that has defined Schafer’s Hollywood career. She’s carved out a name for herself with roles in films like The Hunger Games prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, and Cuckoo. Schafer has also made a name for herself in fashion—having originally started her career as a model—she’s walked runways for major houses like Marc Jacobs and Dior, and has since become a Prada ambassador following her Euphoria rise.

But perhaps most importantly, Schafer’s been a vocal advocate for transgender rights and equality, openly sharing her experiences as a trans woman both publicly and in her personal life, particularly when it comes to navigating dating and relationships.

During a 2024 interview on Call Her Daddy, Schafer spoke about her first-ever relationship, which was with a trans woman, and how it shaped her understanding of romance. “She kind of showed me the ropes because dating as a trans person—it’s complicated. … To know in my first relationship and in my first really being in this mutual love thing, first time having sex, that I got to do it with somebody who completely understands my gender—I’m so thankful for it.”

While Schafer didn’t reveal who her first relationship was with, she has shared some insight and reflections about the relationships she’s had since. From her time dating singer Rosalía to her years-long relationship with a fellow Euphoria co-star, here’s a look back at Schafer’s dating history—or at least what we know of it.

Rosalía (2019)

In an April 2023 interview with GQ, Schafer revealed that she had previously dated Rosalía for five months several years earlier. The relationship, which took place in 2019, had not been confirmed at the time, though fans speculated after the two were seen together on multiple occasions.

“It’s been so much speculation for so long,” Schafer said. “Part of us just wants to get it over with, and then another part is like, ‘It’s none of anybody’s f*cking business!' It’s something I’m happy to share. And I think she feels that way too.”

According to the interview, the Euphoria star and the singer have remained close friends and have still been spotted out together over the years. Schafer added, “I have really beautiful friendships with people that I was once romantically involved with. She’s family no matter what.”

Massima Desire (2020)

In 2020, Hunter Schafer was linked to fellow model Massima Desire. Fans circulated photos of the two together, both off-duty and on set, sparking speculation that they were dating. While neither Schafer nor Desire publicly confirmed a relationship, People previously reported that the pair were “romantically linked” in late 2020.

Dominic Fike (2022—2023)

Schafer’s longest—and most public—relationship has been with her Euphoria co-star Dominic Fike. After sparking romance rumors when they were seen holding hands in early 2022, the two seemingly confirmed their relationship when Fike posted a photo of them kissing to his Instagram Story on February 10, 2022.

One month later, the couple made things red-carpet official at the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party.

In a May 2022 interview with GQ, Fike revealed that he and Schafer immediately bonded after meeting on the Euphoria set. “In those moments, your relationship is accelerated because you’re so vulnerable with someone, immediately,” he shared before adding, “Which usually takes a long time. Some people fall in love, like, f*cking months after they meet or years after. We developed an attraction—it sped it up so fast. We just really got to know each other so quickly.”

One year after going public with their relationship, Schafer opened up about dating Fike in an interview with Elle U.K. “I think we are able to be a safety net for one another. I feel like I’ve been learning a lot about the effort it takes to upkeep it. Because it does, you know, especially in our world. But, to me, it’s deeply worth it.”

But by July 2023, Fike seemingly announced that he and Schafer had broken up during an interview with Apple Music, saying he was “done being in relationships right now.”

The following day, a profile of Fike in the Los Angeles Times doubled down on his newfound singleness, with the actor/musician saying, “When I had a girlfriend, we’d sleep over here. I could make music around her, which was crazy. I was looking through songs the other day and found one that I made with her.”

He continued, “I was like, ‘Man, that was so cool.’ But the fact of me saying that—of being uncomfortable being alone—that’s a bad thing. So I decided to just be alone for a while.”

Then, in August 2024, Schafer broke her silence on the breakup—revealing the relationship actually ended because Fike allegedly cheated on her.

During an interview on the Call Her Daddy podcast, she was candid about how public pressure made their relationship challenging, especially due to their gender and sexuality dynamics. “This is a straight guy who is in the music scene, too, and we’re in a public relationship, he’s dating a trans woman. He’s completely straight; he’s only dated cis women before. And he’s toting me around, happy to be my boyfriend in front of the world, and people are saying horrible, nasty shit because it’s like, ‘Oh, so he’s gay?’ He didn’t care at all. … I wasn’t anxious, but I was also head over heels in love and happy to be doing it.”

She then divulged that a major reason why the relationship ended was because of Fike’s infidelity. “It’s part of why the relationship ended, is I got cheated on for the first time,” she said. “He’s talked about this, too—in his songs, he writes about it—so it’s fine to be talking about it today and it’s part of my truth. But that fundamentally changed me as a person. And it was this whole process of realizing that cheating has nothing to do with you at all. It has everything to do with that person and whatever kind of pain they’re in, or whatever they’re dealing with.”

But she also shared that she wants to keep certain details of their relationship private. “It makes me so nervous to talk about this stuff, because I have no interest in letting the public into what happened and everything,” she told Cooper. “What happened with that was between me and him, and I want to keep it, and I want to protect that.”
